I caught a strep (or it caught me, really). The doctor gave me something yesterday at last. But he warned me that I should start feeling better by tomorrow. So, I'm a little down. On top of that I read some very disturbing news...

Anyways, I gotta remember the good things and along those lines... A happy thing happened too.

Life's been keeping me very busy lately. I haven't had much time to paint, but here and there some progress was made on the revision my Knight piece.

Here's WIP 3 (The armor's looking better but I have to correct the proportion of the plates on his chest - knee things are (still) missing - Added some basic patterns).

Here's WIP 2 (The armor continues to give me grief, but most of the basic shape is down - knee things are missing - I plan to add textures and designs to it later... Oh yeah, the light rays on the left outta go. There ain't two suns in this universe!)

WIP 1 (not very nice, but I hope to get it there... some time... soon)

My original Knight was submitted to gimmefeedback, a very useful group at DevArt. Lots of helpful comments made me realize a major overhaul was in order. Everything on this pic is under revision. Now, the face is almost done (just needs some facial hair and skin imperfections added. I'm working on the armor (oh boy it is difficult to get it. It still lacks shine). At some point I experimented with a tunic, but it did not work... Inspiration for hair-do is just not coming. I wanted something wild, but Mr. Knight refuses to cooperate!

Revising this took forever. While fiddling I've realized how truly impatient I am, yet, I'm was not ready to quit, although temptation struck several times... (I'm so ready to paint something else, tho! :S :D).

WOW, everyone is paranoid about the H1N1 around here. I'm glad though. My boss usually doesn't care at all. But I'm a little scared too.

In any case, the WIP is here:

I have to work on the face, the scarf and yes, the background. I want something more sci-fi looking for this one.

No references for this one. I really, really want to be able draw anatomy perfectly from my mind, so there I must keep practicing. My results are inconsistent (sometimes great, sometimes not so) and that's very annoying to me. But well, at some point it will come naturally to me. I got a really great dynamic figure drawing book from where I have to study and memorize proportions and rules.

PS. Oh yeah, I was thinking Emma Frost when I painted those gloves.

Not so sick anymore! Stuffy tho...

I'm still progressing on my elven couple pic but very slowly. The colours are ~~probably~~ MOST DEFINITELY off cause this was imported back from working on my laptop. The desktop is still acting up... but at least the colours are OK. Today's progress was clean up, composition and overall fixing up of booboos. And 1h of colour correcting a hideous orange overtone from my adventures on the laptop...

PREVIOUSLY...

I'm sick. Spent yesterday in bed and today at home, cozy and warm. So I was bored and sketched quite a bit. Well, mostly I refined 3 sketches quite a bit. They are ready to be coloured.

The following is a WIP of sketch#1 being coloured and a little textured. The skin tones need to be refined not to mention all the details such as hair (!)... But I started.

I was looking at it and I thought that the pose would work for an Uhura Spock pic... I might do it as an exercise at some point.

I intended Sarek, but I think it turned Spockish in the end. :D 'Tis not finished. I gotta colour it. I think it's possible that I turn it into Sarek... Are full Vulcan's eyes all black??

I've discovered that using my pencils makes me happier than sketching on the computer...

Another WIP and the Colonel got the ax. Although, I might still include him on the left...

I've been sketching lots of things! A couple of gypsies, a fortuneteller, a windswept fantasy lady and a set of muffins... :D Meaning Darcy, Bingley and Colonel er... Fitzwilliam. I just came across that nickname and think it fits nicely. :D The Jane Austen fan in me was stirred by remembering the story "For the Love of Jane" by Teresa AF. It's not finished, but the Colonel has made an impression (along other brilliantly developed characters...

So, I'll be colouring something soon, but I gotta scan some sketches first.

I finally made the time to start shading them.

I know there's a lot to do and correct, but well...
I had them on a dark background at first but the light version looked more romantic to me. I'm still undecided on how dark his robes should be. And her dress, hmmm, it was red to start with! This silvery seems to go better. I'm playing, what can I say. :D

I wanted to do it for a while, but I was worried that I wouldn't get them right. It is rare that I work on art from a character portrayed by an actor or actress because of that. It is not ZQ or ZS but I like how they look so far. There's a likeness... :) I'm not sure if this first sketch will make to the colouring stage, but I have started. Will post the WIP soonish.

UPDATE:

It is not perfect, I know this, but I've already started correcting booboos in both figure's arms, his pecks and the fabric flow of his sleeve and her dress on paper. It is my hope to start painting it tomorrow. But maybe I'll work on another sketch first... :D
